Some departments in the Faculty of Management Science are trying to enforce that students wear their departmental color of shirt every day, and some students have voiced out their opinions about this. Sometime latest week, we ran an interview with random students from both faculties and here is what some of them said;
SAMUEL | BUS ADMIN. 400L:
It’s a good idea because the school management have a reason for it, we are the product of the school so they are trying to train us in a corporate manner, even if it’s not that easy, many students find it very hard because they want to wear their many cloths and shoes but they just have to adapt since it’s the law. However, I think the management should be considerate and make it Monday to Wednesday.
ADELEYE ADEDOYIN | ENT 400L:
Why are we bringing our cloths to school when we cant wear them…we are in the university na, even if they are going to make it a law, it shouldn’t be Monday to Friday, Thursday and Friday shouldn’t be for departmental wears/color, it should be anything.
OBISESAN OLABODE | POL. SCI. 400L:
I believe a university student should know what is right and wrong, laws like this are not good at all, we are not secondary school students, they should allow students to put on what they like as long as it is not exposing things that shouldn’t be seen. I don’t see any sense in the ‘only black pant trouser’ on departmental color thing; they should make twice a week or Mondays to Wednesdays.
INNOCENT | ENT 400L:
About the dress and color code law, I don’t think its making sense, we are in a university for god’s sake, people should be free to wear what they like. it should be corporate but not a particular color from Monday to Friday. Any type of material that is black should be allowed. Monday to Friday is ok, Thursday and Friday for native or any type of cloths, people should feel comfortable.
WISE MASTER | BUS ADMIN. 400L:
It’s not that easy and encouraging, I don’t know why someone will put on departmental wear from Monday to Friday, for me I only have two blue wears, how do I manage the for five days? At least should be from Monday to Thursday, Fridays could be native or any other, in fact some departments like mine want that native to be blue.
I don’t think it’s a good idea, come to think of it; most of us only put on jean, chinos and not pants trousers. I buy the idea of the compulsory colored shirts but the ‘no jean rule’? NO!
Well that’s it; they’ve said it all. I for one don’t like the idea, I understand the whole uniformity thingy but look, we are in a university and students should have freedom; freedom of expression on different grounds including fashion-wise. These students are tired of the same trend of dressing week-in, week-out, it’s boring really; they must envy students that have the freedom to change cloths every day.
They can make it compulsory on maybe let’s say Mondays and Tuesdays, the students should then be allowed to wear anything from Wednesday and for the rest of the week so far they don’t wear contraband.
Well it is what it is, we can only hope things change but as it stands, our friends who have been mandated to it must comply. Obedience is a virtue.
